燕山雪花大如席，片片吹落轩辕台。
yān shān xuě huā dà rú xí , piàn piàn chuī luò xuān yuán tái
The snowflakes from northern mountains, big as pillows, and as white, fall flake-upon-flake to the Yellow Emperor’s height.
随着降雪量的加大，气温的降低，大雪节气已经悄然到来。大雪，二十四节气中的第二十一个，通常在每年的公历12月7日或者8日到来，标志着仲冬时节的开始。
As the snowfall increases and mercury freezes, Major Snow, or Daxue, is coming. As the 21st of the 24 solar terms, Major Snow usually occurs on December 7-8 and marks the beginning of midwinter.
大雪有三侯：一候鹃欧不鸣；二候虎始交；三候荔挺出。大雪虽天寒，但生的希望不止。
There are three sure signs that Major Snow is upon the land: Flying squirrels cease to chirp, the tiger seeks a mate and the iris starts to sprout. Though the cold, the hope of life persists.
大雪时节天气严寒，降雪可使农作物避免冷空气的影响，融化的雪水也可滋养农作物的生长。“瑞雪兆丰年”凝结着人们对雪深深的期盼。
Snow protects the crops from the frost and melting ice feeds the struggling crops. Just like the old saying goes: “Timely snow promises a good harvest”, which carries the expectation for harvest.
地白风色寒，雪花大如手。
dì bái fēng sè hán, xuě huā dà rú shǒu
The ground is white, the wind is cold, the snowflakes are as big as my hand.
大雪时节，南方是“雪景如画，银装素裹”的精巧，北方是“千里冰封，万里雪飘”的壮阔。河流池塘完全结冰，人们穿上溜冰鞋滑冰，雪中嬉戏。
During Major Snow, in the South, a delicately picturesque landscape of sliver and white, belies the harsh chill of the North, still frozen solid. Rivers and ponds ice over and people take to their skates and play in the snow.
大雪期间，腊梅绽放。赏花之时，人们喜涮羊肉，因其能够驱寒滋补，促进血液循环。腌肉、熬制红薯粥和雪菜汤等也都是在大雪节气间进行的活动。
When wintersweet comes to flower during Daxue, people like to feast on lamb for its excellent function of nourishing the body, promoting blood circulation and providing protection against the cold. It's a time for curing meat, boiling up sweet potato porridge and mustard soup.
绿蚁新醅酒，红泥小火炉。晚来天欲雪，能饮一杯无？
lǜ yǐ xīn pēi jiǔ, hóng ní xiǎo huǒ lú. wǎn lái tiān yù xuě, néng yǐn yī bēi wú?
My new brew gives a green glow. My red clay stove fires up.
As dusk threatens snow, won’t you come in for a cup?
大雪时节，邀上三五好友，或围炉夜话，或赏雪赋诗，静享娴静与美好。
During the Major Snow, invite friends, or around the stove chatting at night, or enjoying the snow and composing poems, stilly enjoying the quiet beauty.
